Even With High Unemployment, Employers Find it Hard to Fill the Well Payed Jobs.

Looking over the news I came across a headline at Foxnews.com that shocked me, "Even as Layoffs Persist, Some Good Jobs Hard to Fill ". How could there be ANY jobs hard to fill, I asked myself, especially in our current crisis and with unemployment rates being so high? Well according to the Associated Press, even with unemployment rates up to 10% and with 15 million people hunting for work some employers can't find qualified applicants to fill in the good paying jobs such as nursing, engineering, energy research etc. You can read more on this article here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,559961,00.html. It’s hard to believe they are still good paying jobs with positions still open and struggling to find qualified applicants with so many people unemployed. Since our economy has dropped low it has caused many businesses that used to provide jobs that didn’t demand much experience or education to close down and therefore left all those people jobless. This has mainly to do with the applicants not having the education or experience needed for the opening jobs and with the employers being more demanding when it comes to finding the right applicant for the job to assure they won’t be losing any money. This current situation just comes to show how difficult finding a job has become and how much education is needed to succeed in finding a proper job in these current times.

  1. Yes, I think education and preparation are the key here. The jobs that are open remain open because not enough people have the training to fill them. My husband is an air-conditioning technician and for "manual labor" his company pays good money. But not enough people have gone through a certification process in the field to fill the openings. We often hear projections for which fields will have the most growth in the upcoming years--maybe we need to start paying better attention to them.

  2. That's kind of surprising that good paying jobs are still open. I guess all the people that have been laid off from their jobs don't have what the employers are looking for. These jobs might end up being occupied in a couple of years when people get the necessary credentials. That could boost the economy.

  3. I saw this story also! But if they keep raising the cost of getting a college education then those jobs are going to continue to go vacant! There are also lots of positions that do not require alot of education or degree but they still require some form of learning a skill or a trade that is currently in need.
