Freedom, Liberty and Rights

We read the essasy "Freedom, Liberty and Rights: Three cautionary Tales" by Aryeh Neir. This essay talks about Orwell's view on these such words: freedom, liberty, and rights as unclear and misleading words because their is no clear definition of them. Neir believes these words go more along with what Orwell said about corruption."But if thought corrupts language, language can also corrupt thought." He agrees with Orwell that the government uses these words as a form of corruption, as a form to get us to go along and support them. I never really put much thought into those words themselves and their true meaning until reading Orwell's and Neir's essays. I agree with both of them, i do feel that the government twists things around by using these words as an excuse to go on war(Iraq) and such. This means that as Americans we have a responsibility to keep ourselves informed and not only listen to politicians but analyze what they are saying, how they are saying it and why.

  1. I'm The Same. I Have Never Really Looked At Or Analyzed Those Words (Freedom, Liberty, Rights) Until Reading Orwell And Neir. They Use The Words To Pretty Up What Is Really Happening Overseas And To Just Get The Support Of The Americans And See That It Is A Cause Worth Fighting For. As You Said, It's American's Responsibilities To Make Ourselves Informed Of What Is Truly Being Said.

  2. I feel so violated that they're omitting so many things from me. It's kinda like a case of bad knowledge, except it's not really crap they're blurting out. Just somewhat factual things, only manipulated.
